MUNICIPAL BY-ELECTIONS IN MBHASHE ON 25 AUGUST 2010 24/08/2010 The municipal ward by-elections scheduled to take place tomorrow in Mbhashe [Idutywa] Municipality – EC121 will be going ahead. A court application, brought by the previous councillors in the Anc Eastern Cape High Court in an attempt to prevent the by-elections from taking place on 25 August 2010, was dismissed by the court on 24 August 2010 with costs. The councillors who represented the African National Congress were expelled by the party. The 10 by-elections will now take place in the following wards as planned: Ward 3 will be contested by Nozibele Tswila of the African National Congress; and Godfrey Galelekile Ndandani of the United Democratic Movement; Ward 8 will be contested by Maligasi Khwakhwi of the African National Congress; and Wele Gayiya of the United Democratic Movement; Ward 9 will be contested by Bongile Jamnda of the African National Congress; and Janet Miti of the United Democratic Movement; Ward 10 will be contested by Mninawa Peter of the African National Congress; and Ludwe Jadezweni of the United Democratic Movement; Ward 13 will be contested by Xoliswa Oscariner Willie of the African National Congress; and Luvuyo Nangu of the United Democratic Movement; Ward 18 will be contested by Qundekane Nozwi of the African National Congress; and Preston Faniso of the United Democratic Movement; Ward 19 will be contested by Qawuse Xozumthi of the African National Congress; and Ntshikelelo Mbangasini of United Democratic Movement; Ward 20 will be contested by Mantimfana Joe Savu of the African National Congress; and Themba Mahilihili of the United Democratic Movement; Ward 22 is uncontested. Mziwanele Ndinisa of the African National Congress is the only candidate; while Ward 23 will be contested by Mbuyiseli Mapungu of the African National Congress; and Natora Noluntu Gadudu of the African Peoples’ Convention.
