MURDER ACCUSED STILL AT LARGE Murder accused, Oakantse Mosimanegape, also known as Rock, is wanted by the police after violating bail conditions. Mr Kutlo Tsekane from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) confirmed that efforts to locate Modisagape had not paid dividends. Modisagape was charged alongside his girlfriend, Shathani Bulayani, for the murder of her son, Nathaniel Bulayani on October 11, 2011. Nathaniel, who was a standard seven pupil at Itumeleng Primary School in Gaborone, allegedly died at the hands of his mother and stepfather after they tied him to the rafters of their makeshift house and assaulted him until he became unconscious. The pair was reported to have left the boy tied to the rafters the whole night, but when they noticed that he was still alive the following morning they reportedly beat him to death and dumped his body near the then newly built Travel Lodge in Block Three, where it was found by construction workers. Modisagape was given bail by Lobatse High Court on June 28, 2012 on a bond of P5,000. He also provided two sureties, being his cousin, who is working at First Offenders’ Prison in Gaborone and his younger brother who is working at Shammy’s Auto in Broadhurst, both of who were on a bond of P2 000 each. Modisagape was to report twice a week, being Mondays and Fridays, at Molepolole Police Station and he was not to enter the precincts of Gaborone. However upon enquiry with Molepolole police when the trial dates became nearer, Mr Tsekane said it was reported that Mosimanegape had never reported even once. This therefore forced the prosecution to separate the trial hence recently Shathani was brought before Judge Michael Leburu where 10 state witnesses testified. The defence lawyer Ms Yvonne Chilume is yet to cross examine the investigating officer before the state closes its case. Meanwhile, recently a team of officers from DPP invaded Mogorosi village near Serowe, where Modisagape originates, to look for him but came back empty handed. His mother and sister including neighbours reportedly said the fugitive had not been to the village for a long time and they had no idea as to where he could be. Modisagape who spots tattoos of an arrow piercing a heart, a knife with a spitting cobra on his arms and some calluses over his knuckles, is deemed dangerous and members of the public are advised to approach him with care should they spot him. In the meantime Shathani is in custody as she has nowhere to stay following her rejection and negligence by family members after she was implicated in the murder of her 11-year-old son, Nathaniel, in partnership with Modisagape. Her case is scheduled for continuation of trial from November 10-12. (BOPA)
