MURDER SUSPECTED - 1942 Found unconscious in a lane behind a hotel at the northern end of the city, Mrs. Catherine Whitley, 65, died at the Royal Melbourne Hospital on the 28th July 1942. Extensive fracture of the skull by violence disclosed in a post-mortem examination makes it appear likely that the woman was murdered. As Mrs. Whitley died without having regained consciousness, detectives were unable to obtain from her any information about what had happened.
