MUSEUM LIVE DAY IS SATURDAY, SEPT. 27 MAYSVILLE | The Kentucky Gateway Museum Center will open its doors free of charge on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, as part of Smithsonian magazine’s tenth annual Museum Day Live! A nationwide event, Museum Day Live! offers free admission to visitors presenting a Museum Day Live! ticket at a participating museum or cultural institution. Inclusive by design, the event represents Smithsonian’s commitment to make learning and the spread of knowledge accessible to everyone, giving museums across all 50 states the opportunity to emulate the admission policy of the Smithsonian museums in Washington, D.C. Last year’s event drew over 400,000 participants, and this year’s event expects record-high participation. “We want everyone to experience the exhibits and the research library at the KGMC so we appreciate the Smithsonian program that allows patrons to enter at no cost so they can see the value of our museum and, we hope, become members,” said Sue Ellen Grannis, curator. Dinosaurs are back in the Changing Exhibits Gallery; The KSB Miniatures Gallery is 3,300 square feet of exquisite decorative arts – even the nursery rhyme characters; and the Wormald Building exhibit shows the history of the settlement of this area and life through the years. Currently, Steve White’s historic paintings are on exhibit in the Nooe Gallery of the Wormald Building, and Ron Bailey’s photos of Maysville are in the Wormald Building as well. Download a Museum Day Live! ticket at Smithsonian/museumdaylive for two free admissions to our museum. One ticket is permitted per household, per email address.
