MUSIC FOR EARTH DAY Old Sand Mills debut CD, The World is Getting Colder All roads lead to Old Sand Mill. For instance, what does the hit film, Inside Llewyn Davis, The Coen Brothers, T-Bone Burnett, Alison Krauss, and singer/Fiddler Gabe Witcher, have in common with alternative Brit-influenced folk rock band, Old Sand Mill, and their hot debut CD, The World is Getting Colder? Well, both The Coen Brothers as filmmakers, and T-Bone Burnett, together, both worked on the brilliant film, OBrother, Where Art Thou? Multiple Grammy winner, Bluegrass/Country artist, Jerry Douglas, appears on the soundtrack and co-produced much of the award winning music in the movie. Jerry also is part of Alison Krauss and her Union Station band who also perform on the same soundtrack. And Old Sand Mills Chip Miller, a known filmmaker and music video director, directed Jerrys first solo music video, featuring violinist/fiddler Gabe Witcher. Both are among many big name players on Old Sand Mills debut work. Gabe Witcher, however, dominated the Southern California fiddle contest circuit until he retired at 14, and went on to become an award winning guitar and mandolin player, is in constant demand as a session player, is a founding member of The Punch Brothers, and has recorded and appeared with the likes of Paul Simon, John Denver, Emmylou Harris, Beck, Loggins & Messina, Van Morrison, Willie Nelson, Joan Baez, Chris Thile, Don Was, Jerry Douglas, Merle Haggard, Bernie Taupin (Elton John), dobro legend Leroy Mack, The Laurel Canyon Ramblers, Herb Pedersen, Chris Hillman, Randy Newman, Mumford & Sons, Gillian Welch, and Lyle Lovett, as well as contributed to the soundtracks of numerous national television commercials, and television programs such as The Lazarus Man, Roar, and Party of 5. Gabe contributes his amazing fiddle to several Old Sand Mill tracks, including the bands first single, Too Much Sun, as well as on “Old Sand Mill Country” and “End Of Beginning.” He also appears with his bandmates, progressive bluegrass band, The Punch Brothers (consisting of Sugar Creek’s Chris Thile, Paul Kowert, Noam Pikelny, Chris Eldridge, and Gabe, in the new hit Coen Brothers movie, Inside Llewyn Davis, as well as performs three numbers in the film and soundtrack.
