MUSIC HISTORY 101 NOVEMBER 13, 1976 - Rod Stewart started an 8 week run at #1 on the US Billboard singles chart with Tonights The Night. It was Rods second US #1, and it reached #5 in the UK after being banned by many radio stations due to songs lyric dealing with the seduction and deflowering of a virgin. The song, which features whispers in French from actress Britt Ekland who was Stewarts girlfriend at the time, was recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama for his 1976 album A Night on the Town. The famous story the musicians tell is that when Stewart arrived at the studios and saw them getting ready, he refused to believe they were the band, sure the guys he heard playing on those records were black, and had a hard time accepting that four white guys were the band. LYRICS: Stay away from my window Stay away from my back door too Disconnect the telephone line Relax baby and draw that blind Kick off your shoes and sit right down Loosen off that pretty French gown Let me pour you a good long drink Ooh baby dont you hesitate cause Tonights the night Its gonna be alright Cause I love you girl Aint nobody gonna stop us now Cmon angel my hearts on fire Dont deny your mans desire Youd be a fool to stop this tide Spread your wings and let me come inside Tonights the night Its gonna be alright Cause I love you girl Aint nobody gonna stop us now Dont say a word my virgin child Just let your inhibitions run wild The secret is about to unfold Upstairs before the nights too old Tonights the night Its gonna be alright Cause I love you woman Aint nobody gonna stop us now WATCH: youtube/watch?v=IZr6AE-u2UM
