MUSIC IS KILLING OUR CULTURE -DAVELEO Some 1960s and 70s high life songs in my dvd player, trying to go back into history where musicians like AAA, Amakye Dede, Nana Tuffour, AB Crentsil, Paa Bobo, Ali Baba Forster, Adomako Nyamekye, Ampadu, City Boys, Oheneba Kissi, Kojo Antwi, Afro Moses, Lumba Brothers, Teacher SK, Onyina, ThomasFrimpong and Pat Thomas and the likes are; Singing real sense into my heard and reminding me of how the true Ghanaian music sounds like, where morality was preached by musicians but not only for the preserve of the so-called pastors of today. Now what I see on TV lately, leave much to be desired. Gospel singers and circular musicians cannot be differentiate from each other. If the bible says the people of God are the salt of the earth, what do we sing and dance to, to show the true morality we are made of? I will prefer to listen to these great high life preachers than immorally-coated and clandestinely-decorated so-called gospel singers who do not give me anything than an appetite to fornicate. Our society is how it is today because most songs seek not to reform it but rather destroy the little cultural values left, by gathering and packaging certain unacceptable garbages from some unknown foreign countries which are themselves outmoded from their sources. Presenters on TV shows, DJs, Show organizers, Program coordinators and Event organizers should take a bigger chunk of the blame because someone like Chris Brown could not have come to Ghana to smoke weed on a platform, if those who invited him had told him our likes and dislikes, as a state in relation to our cultural values. My humble plea to the youth of today is to know what to listen to and make sure your life is reformed by what you hear rather than accepting anything wholesale. what can we do to clean our society of these high level of immorality?
