MUSIC PEOPLE PLEASE READ: DISHONEST PROMOTER ALERT Connor Lewis of Vapour events in Manchester. Reign of Fury and Born of the Jackal played at the The Star and Garter last night for a pre-agreed fee, booked via Nazgul Agency. The promoter REFUSED TO PAY the full amount. Having failed to return the completed contracts despite many requests to do so, I advised the band to request payment before the show (as the contract hed been sent outlined should happen). He asked if he could pay after the show promising Im good for it. After the show, however, he chose to pay less than 50% of the amount due. He failed to give us a load in time until 3:50pm on the day of the show despite our constant chasing, then claimed we were late despite us arriving, loading in, and being ready before doors. This was his basis for withholding payment. He claimed we had breached contract (though he hadnt returned it) by not sharing backline. Our full backline was loaded in, and not used by support bands in favour of a house kit. There was no presence or communication of stage manager or promoter at this point. He even tried to stop us using our own kit at one point. Smaller points, such as agreed accommodation not being provided (until my last minute intervention) should also be noted. Anyone who knows me knows knows I am nothing if not honest. This individual failed to communicate, failed to promote the show in any meaningful way, and he lied before refusing to pay the pre-agreed amount. I would suggest this is a young boy who is playing promoter, is completely out of his depth, and doesnt quite realise the potential repercussions of trying to rip off established bands and agencies. Connor and his partner have declined to respond to any communications to settle this privately, so I feel this is the best way to prevent it happening to others. Anyone whod like more information, please PM me. Our fee to play covered our costs to play only, no profit. The money we have lost now comes from our own personal finances put aside for the Headbangers Balls tour expenses, as we do not use campaign funds. Please SHARE if you know someone who needs to know.
