No. MUM/IIIT/CONF/2014/1 5thMarch, 2014 THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ISLAMIC EPISTEMOLOGY AND CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT Towards a Creative Revitalization of our Intellectual Heritage Organized by the Muslim University of Morogoro [MUM] in collaboration with The International Institute of Islamic Thought [IIIT] Saturday 9 – Monday 11 August 2014 Invitation Letter Dear All, We cordially invite you to actively participate in the forthcoming First International Conference on Islamic Epistemology and Curriculum Development which holds great promise of strengthening our resolve and commitment towards revitalizing our Intellectual Heritage. In so many ways the Conference also heralds a unique opportunity for expanding and cementing the network of scholars in the region and beyond. The conference will be held from 9th to 11th August 2014 at the Muslim University of Morogoro (MUM), Morogoro, Tanzania. General Information about the Conference: Some general information is provided here below which you may find useful. Should you have any question or require further assistance, do not hesitate to contact the organizers through the addresses shown in the letter below. 1. Invited participants Invited participants are top academicians and administrators of Islamic universities and university colleges; managers and heads of Islamic schools and Teacher Training colleges; leaders of Muslim organizations; leaders of Muslim students Organizations in public and private universities and prominent individuals involved in Muslim education. Participants are expected from, but not limited to, the following countries: Burundi, Central Africa Republic, Comoro, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mauritius, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Somalia (Mogadishu), Somalia (Herguesa), South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe 2. . Languages of the Conference and general communication The main language of the conference shall be English. Interpreters and Translators for Arabic, French, Portuguese and Kiswahili will be available. 3. Submission of Papers for Presentation Participants who wish to present papers at the conference are advised to submit their papers to the secretariat by not later than June, 30th 2014. The following conditions about the papers should be observed: (i) An Abstract of the paper [not more than one page ] be submitted to the secretariat not later than 30th April 2014. (ii) Authors of accepted abstracts shall be notified by 15th May 2014. (iii) Soft and hard copies of full papers should be received by the secretariat by 30th June 2014. (iv) The papers should be in double spaced format of 12 font size Tahoma. (v) Presentation at the conference shall be in Power Point or Keynote 4. Travelling Expenses • Participants from foreign countries shall pay for their own travel expenses to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The Muslim University of Morogoro (MUM) shall provide return shuttle bus services between Dar es Salaam (Dar) and Morogoro. • Local participants (from Zanzibar and Mainland-Tanzania) are required to pay for their own return travelling costs to Morogoro. • MUM will take care of all travelling costs within Morogoro. Participants are required to inform the conference secretariat their mode of travel, departure and arrival dates and time at Dar and Morogoro, by not later than July, 15th, 2014. 5. Reception MUM shall receive the participants on Friday 8th August, 2014. 6. Accommodation MUM shall provide meals and accommodation at the University campus, to all the participants. Participants with special needs regarding meals and accommodation should inform the secretariat before their arrival. 7. Registration and Identification Badges Participants shall be required to register and obtain Identification badges as soon as they arrive in Morogoro. Kindly bring along your invitation letter and personal identification for registration purposes. For identification and security reasons, all participants should wear their badges at all times during the conference. 8. Conference Dress Code and Seating Arrangement The Conference dress Code is formal Islamic attire, common suit or a safari-suit for men. Ladies are expected to dress modestly and decently or in the common Hijab. For security reasons, all participants should wear their Conference Identification badges at all times, and for the same reasons, Niqab will not be allowed during the conference. There will be separate seating arrangements for ladies and gentlemen. 9. Conference Documents Participants will be issued with hard copies of the Conference Time-Table and Programme on their arrival in Morogoro. Papers to be presented at the conference and other relevant documents will also be made available in due course. Participants are advised to consult with the organizers on any matters pertaining to the issuance or distribution of conference documents 10.
