MUSONA SET FOR CHIEFS RETURN! Published: Tuesday, 2014/08/12 KAIZER Chiefs are on the verge of re-signing their star striker, Knowledge Musona, from German outfit Hoffenheim. But even if the Zimbabwean international hitman joins Chiefs this week as planned, he would still not be available for some time, according to head coach Stuart Baxter. Amakhosi travel to Mbombela Stadium tomorrow night to play Mpumalanga Black Aces in their second Absa Premiership match (7.30pm), which is seen as a grudge match. Baxter’s charges thumped Aces 4-0 in the MTN8 in their opening PSL match but the Englishman has warned his charges not to become complacent. Said Baxter yesterday: “We are hoping to finally get the deal done with Hoffenheim. As far as I know we should reach an agreement with Musona this week. But I will only start celebrating getting him back once the fat lady sings and he is at Naturena.” Baxter disclosed that Musona, who was on loan from the Bundesliga side after leaving Amakhosi in 2011 and was the club’s top marksman in all competitions last season, is recovering from injury. Said Baxter: “I would love to have him as soon as possible, but it will take time to get him fit. So when he returns, he will be joining Shabba (Siphiwe Tshabalala), Matthew Rusike and Bernard Parker, who are all recovering from injuries and unavailable.” Baxter warned his players about Aces. “I just worry that the players think this will be easy but it won’t. “Aces will be up for it this time after the thumping we gave them. “There’s a long way to go and we made a positive start, but I’ve told the players they will have to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty.” Chiefs edged out Free State Stars (1-0) in their first league match of the season played at the Charles Mopeli Stadium’s cabbage patch on Saturday. Stated Baxter: “The pitch was a disgrace. It was like playing on cotton wool on a bed of sand. “The fact we won and played well is a credit to my players. At least we will have a better surface to play Aces.” Baxter will use the same squad that beat Stars against Clive Barker’s side, who managed to get a credible 1-1 in their opening league match away to Bloemfontein Celtic on Sunday. #kevin_bird
