MUST READ/Quoting a comment under this original post: --The smartest decision a criminal can make is to avoid getting into a gunfight in Polk County, FL!! For those of you not aware, this is not the first time Sheriff Grady Judd been unapologetic about protecting its residents of Polk County in a gunfight to the media. In 2006, Angilo Freeland was pulled over for speeding in Lakeland, Florida by Polk County D/S Doug Speirs. After giving the officer a fake ID, the officer called for backup. Freeland (who was armed with a handgun) ran into the woods and hid. A K9 unit responded and the two officers and the dog began searching for the suspect. The suspect shot K9 officer D/S Matt Williams 9 times, including one close-range shot into the officers head and a second shot into the officers head with the muzzle of the pistol pressed against the victims skull. Freeland also killed the dog, and then shot D/S Speirs in the leg. The suspect took the dead officers weapon and ammunition and hid in the woods again. D/S Speirs notified dispatch of the situation and authorities mounted a massive manhunt, including 500 officers, every available police dog, a SWAT armored vehicle and a helicopter. LE searched the woods for Freeland, who came out of the woods once to shoot at the searchers. During a news conference that night, Sheriff Judd made a statement and promised We will find this suspect, we will bring him to justice. The investigation will go on. We will not sleep. We will not rest until we have the suspect in custody for this heinous action today. And that is exactly what happened. The next day, the suspect was finally cornered by ten SWAT officers. The SWAT team members stated that when the suspect pointed his gun at them, they opened fire, shooting him 68 times out of their 110 rounds fired. During a news conference regarding the incident, the media asked why the suspect was shot 68 times. Without hesitation Sheriff Judd replied back BECAUSE WE RAN OUT OF BULLETS!--
