MUST READ: Senator Bodi White appropriated $100,000 of the 5.6 million in the hotel/motel tax to go to the St. George Fire Department. The $100,000 will go towards hazmat training and equipment. Thats 1/56 of the entire tax. For two days in a row, Mayor Kip Holden was at the Senate lobbying to take that money away. And then the potential next mayor-president Senator Sharon Weston Broome took the mic to try and strip the amendment. This is after they gutted the St. George Fire District with the annexation of the Mall of Louisiana. Again, the parish president and Senator Broome lobbied to remove 1/56 of the total budget going to provide a hazmat unit for the firemen at St. George to protect over 107,000 people. Despite their best efforts the amendment passed. This is the ABSOLUTE worst in leadership. Judge for yourself what opponents of this movement think about the people in the southern portion of the parish.
