MUTEMBO NCHITO STOPS PROSECUTION OF DEC OFFICER WHO STOLE MONEY FROM SUSPECT Director of Public Prosecutions Mutembo Nchito has blocked the prosecution of a Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) officer who stole money from a suspect the DEC went to search. Mutembo Nchito has blocked the prosecution of Lameck Phiri a DEC officer by entering a nolle prosequi (no prosecution) into the matter in which Lawyer Jonas Zimba wanted to conduct a private prosecution against Lameck Phiri. The background is that DEC officer Lameck Phiri went to search a citizen but discovered that the suspect had K55, 000 on him. He grabbed the money after beating the suspect and claimed the money would be used as evidence. It turned out the suspect was hired by his uncle to go and buy a car and thus the money in his car. See below the complaint by the victim in court before the Nchito withdrew the matter.
