MUTHARIKA FAULTED FOR APPOINTING CHASOWA KILLER AS POLICE CHIEF The appointment of Rodney Jose as the new Deputy Police Inspector General has not gone down well with many stakeholders as he is still part of a team that masterminded the killing of University of Malawi student, Robert Chasowa, in 2011. Several civil society leaders have cautioned why Jose who also worked hand in hand with President Mutharika in planning Chasowas demise should be trusted with the Police Service. That might mean Mutharika wants to use the police to silence his critics as they did with Chasowa, said one activist who spoke on condition of anonymity. Jose, who at that time was based at Southern Region Headquarters at Chichiri, was the one who agreed to the idea of Chasowa and friends to help government in quashing demonstrations that were impending and promised the boys K10 million in return. Upon realizing that he had lied to the boys, Jose planned with Zimbabwe assassins to secretly invade Polytechnic campus where they killed Chasowa in cold blood. During the Joyce Banda regime, Jose was one of the people arrested but was released on bail.
