MWD Ddoc L258 is now a poster K-9 for K-9 PTSD here is his story from our new friend Ddoc. During his last deployment to Afghanistan, Ddoc and his handler were hit by mortar fire and were thrown several feet in the air. Thankfully they were both physically OK, just shaken up. Ddoc started showing signs of stress, fear, and anxiety. As a PEDD Ddoc found 14 IED’s in his last deployment and saved numerous Soldiers lives. When Ddoc started to act strange they pulled him from the line and took him back to the base to rest. Ddoc would work, but he would fail to alert to explosive. Obviously he was not reliable on patrol and was given time to take a break. After some well deserved R&R his handler tried again. Still nothing. He was not alerting and became fearful when around more than a couple of people in a crowd, tucking his tail and not leaving his handlers side. He was evaluated by the vet and was diagnosed with Canine Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. After this diagnosis he was flown back stateside.
