MWR will host the annual Back to School Bash from 8am to noon July - TopicsExpress

MWR will host the annual Back to School Bash from 8am to noon July 26 at the Youth Services Campus at the intersection of Baltzell and McIver streets on Main Post. This is free and fun for the whole family, with games and refreshments. The highlight of the event is the distribution of school backpacks and supplies for the dependent children of MWR patrons, including active duty, retired Soldiers and DoD civilian employees. Each year, our sponsors make it possible for us to give more than 1,000 backpacks and school staples, including pencils, folders, paper and more. Supplies are distributed while they last on a first come, first served basis, for students in preK through high school. Children must be accompanied by a parent, and yes, parents must be accompanied by the student to receive backpacks. Parents must have military ID and children 10 and older must present their ID, also. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate families who cannot attend the event for any reason. This notice gives you more than two months to alter your schedule to attend. Expect very long lines, and plan accordingly. Expect incredibly hot and humid weather and bring sun block, water and umbrellas for your safety and comfort. If the heat presents a health threat to you or your child, arrive early in hopes of being near the front of the line or skip this event altogether. Your health and safety is our first concern. In an effort to streamline the wait times, we will have several MWR team members registering you for your backpacks. Please be patient. Do not skip registration or allow your children to leave the line to play. They must reach the registration table when you do. You will be given a tag at registration to redeem for supplies. Backpacks and supplies are designated as “age appropriate,” so you will not be given a choice in selection. Please be courteous, and do not attempt to cut in line or save spots for your friends. There’s an angry mob standing behind you and the temperature is rising. We cannot police the line, but we do keep voodoo dolls under the table, with those blunt tipped kindergarten scissors that cause excessive pain and bleeding. If it rains, we’ll pass out supplies inside the CYSS Gymnasium.
