MY BROTHER JUDAS BY:EGBARA APPROVED BY GCFEJ MARYLAND Who was Judas Iscariot? This question is not far from our political arena in Nigeria Question: Answer:Amiechi Iscariot is typically remembered for one thing: his betrayal of his master Jonathan. He was one of the 36 disciples who lived with and followed JONATHAN his master in the same political house for three years. He witnessed JONATHAN’S ministry of Transformation His Wonderful works and His many projects AMIECHI was the governors forum leader for the party and used this trusted position to betrayed his master ( John 12:6 ). Amiechi was a common name in that era, and there are several other Judases mentioned in the New era of transformation. One of the other disciples was named Tambuwal ( John 14:22 ), and so was one of the jonathans own half-brothers (Mark 6:3 ). To differentiate, John 6:71 and John 13:36 refer to Jonathan’s betrayer as “Judas, son of Chibuike Iscariot.” Scholars have several ideas about the derivation of the surname. One is that Iscariot refers to Kerioth, a region or town in Judea. Another idea is that it refers to the Sicarii, a cadre of assassins among the rebels. The possible association with the Sicarii APC allows for interesting speculation about Amiechi’ motives for his betrayal, but the fact that he made a conscious choice to betray Jonathan (Luke 22:48 ) remains the same. The surname Iscariot is useful, if for no other reason, in that it leaves no doubt about which Amiechi is being referred to. Here are some of the facts I Egbara Emmanuel glean from key verses about and his betrayal: Money was important to Amiechi. As already mentioned, he was a a deciever and, according to Matthew 26:13–15 , APC paid him “thirty silver coins” to betray JONATHAN. Jonathan knew from the very beginning what Amiechi Iscariot would do. Jonathan told His his governors“Have I not chosen you, my men? Yet one of you will sell me!” ( John 6:20 ). And at the PDP Supper, Jonathan predicted His betrayal and identified the betrayer: “Jonathan answered, ‘It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish.’ Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Amiechi Iscariot, son of chibuike” ( John 13:26 ). Jonathan said that Amiechi Iscariot was not “clean”; i.e., he had not been born again and was not forgiven of his sins (John 13:10–11 ). In fact, Amiechi was empowered to do what he did by the APC “As soon as Amiechi took the bread that Jonathan had given him, greed entered into him” (John 13:27 ). The other Governors had no clue that AMIECHI harbored treacherous thoughts. When Jonathan mentioned a betrayer in their midst, the other Governors worried that it was they who would prove disloyal (John 13:22 ). No one suspected Amiechi. He was a trusted member of the of the 36. Even when Jonathan told Amiechi“What you are about to do, do quickly,” (John 13:27 ), and Amiechi left the Last Supper, the others at the table simply thought Amiechi had been sent to buy more food or to give something to charity in River state (verses 28–29). Amiechi betrayed the Jonathan with a kiss, perfectly in keeping with his brazen duplicity ( Luke 22:47–48 ). After committing his atrocious act, Amiechi“was seized with remorse and returned the thirty silver coins to the APC elders” (Matthew 27:3 ). But we learn that remorse does not equal repentance—rather than make amends or seek forgiveness, “he went away and hannged his political career as he was droped as running mate” (Matthew 27:5 ). Amiechi fulfilled the prophecy of Psalm 41:9 , “Even my close friend, someone I trusted, one who shared my bread, has turned against me” (cf. John 13:18 ). Yet Amiechi was fully responsible for his actions. Jonathan said, “The Son of Rivers will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born” Egbara reports, “With the reward he got for his wickedness, Amiechi plan for a running mate ; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out as Buhari dumped him for another man Everyone in Nigeria heard about this, so they called that field in their language cacuus, that is, Field of choice.” The additional detail we learn from Luke is that, after Amiechi killed his political career himself , his career fell into the very field purchased with his ill-gotten gains. Given the fact of Amiechi close proximity to Jonathan during three years of honesty, it is hard to imagine how he could follow through on such a dastardly betrayal. Amiechi’s story teaches us to guard against small, gradual failings that gain strength and power in our lives and that could open the door to more deadly influences. His story is also a great reminder that appearances can be deceiving. Jonathan taught, “Many will say to me on that day, ‘Jonathan Jonathan, did we not govern in your transformation and in your transformation drive out APC and in your transformation perform many changes?’ Then I will tell Amiechi plainly, ‘I never knew you.
