MY COMMENT ON AN ARTICLE ENTITLED CAN ISLAM CHANGE? AT newstatesman/node/148821 “CAN ISLAM CHANGE?” – I would say yes, of course, it has been changing throughout the ages since Adam & Eve, both in SUBSTANCE & FORMS, with one SINGLE EXCEPTION which is the Belief in the DOCTRINE OF TAWHID (Tawheed or Tauhid). This is the BASIC ISLAM, the practice of which through time, was corrupted by mankind. Prophet Mohammed, being the last Prophet, was the Messenger for the COMPLETED ISLAM. The Quran will be eternal and will not be changed. Being human, the Muslims have failings and their understanding of the Quran will never be perfect but they have to change with the times and will again be in danger of exposing themselves to corruptions in their Islamic practices. We can see this happening already. Let’s not make too big an issue about human “interpretations”, which are too many, of the Quran as even the relatively simpler “translation” chores have resulted in many versions – yet the Arabic Texts of the Quran have not changed. Unless the Quran is interpreted by humans, the Quranic guidance cannot be practiced by mankind in their interactions with the changing environment. The Syariah is derived from the Quran, Sunnah/Hadiths, Ijma’, Qyias and Ijtihad/Aql (logical reasoning) in descending order of importance. The Syariah will continue to undergo its evolution through times. From the 7th century AD onwards, Islam (COMPLETED ISLAM) will change NO MORE, it’s for the Muslims to change & evolve with times.
