MY GOD HAS IT REALLY BEEN 15 YEARS? I will never forget the day after my mother came out of surgery and found out she has two months to live. She was sitting up in her bed talking to me and Joey. She was in good spirit and sounded spunky. We were talking about something, and my mom had a moment where she forgot something. My mom had a memory like a steel trap. She never forgot anything. Dates, times, names to actors, she knew everything. So I thought I would make a wise crack to the affect of, Gee mom, did they operate on your brain? She slowly turned her head towards me. She gave me that cold stare, just like the one in that picture. I got this hot feeling that overcame my body. Here this Woman was dying, and she still had command over her moose of a son. That was my mother in a nutshell. She used to say , Im not you friend, Im your Mother. When I was young, I hated when she said that, but now that Im parent I totally get what she was trying to say. She didnt mind being the bad guy or girl. She stuck by her principles, and didnt waiver. I fought her tooth and nail. After all, I was just like her. But she also nurtured my independence. She encouraged me to be a leader to be myself. Not to just go along. I live by that everyday of my life. No, she was not always right, but as time goes on, I know that she was just doing the best she could, and stuck to her principles. Mama, I love you and miss you very much. The stuff you and Dad taught me are coming around in a big way. Raising two kids by myself is a tall order, but I feel Im fully equipped.
