MY IJAB: MY DUTY; MY RIGHT I am a law abiding and peace loving - TopicsExpress

MY IJAB: MY DUTY; MY RIGHT I am a law abiding and peace loving Nigerian citizen who knows her rights and duties under the law. I am a Muslim woman who is conscious of her duties to her creator. I am a precious being endowed with a sacred body that must be covered and shielded. For these reasons, I cherish the use of my Ijab as a duty and as a right. But I leave in a society that detest my Hijab and reviles me for exercising my fundamental human rights. I have been vilified at home by family members who do not understand Islam and maligned at school by non-Muslim colleagues and authorities who are either ignorant or negligent of their duty to respect my rights. Most unfortunately, I have also been disappointed by some scholars and custodians of the faith who are helpless in the defence of my rights. The use of my Hijab anywhere and at any time is my fundamental human right. This is beyond contention. But the question I ask my antagonist at home...,at school,at work and in government is: What havoc, if any, can my Hijab create in the society?I am sure there is none. But I know that no one can dispute the fact that my Hijab bestows honour on me, promotes public morality and preserves public order. Why then would the Lagos State Government or any entity attempt to ban or discourage the use of Hijab? Why would Government close its eyes to or promote immoral mode of dressing in our schools and choose to fight a decent mode of dressing? Why would anybody trample on my right? Why would the Government ask me to leave public school for Muslim private school that my parents cannot afford because I want to be modest in my dressing? Why would the Government debar me from performing my duty to my God? If the students in private schools, which are under the same regulatory authority of Lagos State Ministry of Education, could be allowed to use Hijab, it would be tantamount to discrimination and illogicality to deny their counterparts in public schools the same right. My Ijab is my right and my duty to my God. I enjoin you to join me in the campaign against the ban of Ijab in Public schools.
