MY MUSIC BUSINESS CHRISTMAS ADVICE FOR 2014. I THINK THIS ADVICE WORKS IN LIFE AS WELL I often get asked about how you make it in the music business. My best advice usually is just get out there and do it, whatever getting out there and doing it means. Something will either happen or it wont. One fateful meeting will lead to another or it wont. Just get out there and do it. Over night success is still very rare. My over night success took 15 years. Work hard. Be Strong. For me I was lucky enough to play clubs six nights a week for 9 years driving with my band from one gig to the next sleeping on amplifiers and speakers in the back of the van until I got my record deal with Arista Nashville, and a few years after that had my first hit with Take It Like A Man. SO THANKFUL. I truly believe that everyone in my camp always tried to give me sound advice and at times that advice was as good as it gets but there is nothing like that knowing that you have. That still small voice that is your truth and for me has sometimes been hard to listen to. I would think What do I know. Im just a small town girl, with one year of college and just barely got passing grades. DONT LET THAT CONVINCE YOU THAT YOU ARE NOT SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE TO BE SUCCESSFUL. My hyper activity and attention deficit was not my friend in school but it has served me well in life.
