MY NEW BABY. I had heard about this limited walnut 4003 edition, had seen it online, but finding one in person is damned near impossible. Ricks are hand-made in very limited numbers. Even dealers never know when they will get one, and often the wait is 1-2 years. So I walked into Nicholsons Music in Folsom the other day to get new strap locks on my 4003 Rick--and BOOM! There she was! I played her, shopped around a bit, and negotiated, or tried too. Good luck getting a discount off retail (and I knew this going in). So I got them to throw in a set of Rick strings, a strap, and better strap locks, These never go down in value and always go up, and I simply love her. (And I sold a couple other things I had laying around to essentially pay for her, so its all good in that department.) And . . . she doesnt talk back unless I play her. She doesnt eat. Shes never moody, and she is always whispering to me to pick her up, hold her tight, and make music. . . RICKENBACKER 4003 Bass Walnut Limited Edition specs: Body Type: Solid No. Frets: 20 Scale Length: 84.5 cm (33 1/4 in) Neck Width at Nut: 42.9 mm (1 11/16 in) Neck Width at 12th Fret: 54.0 mm (2 1/8 in) Crown Radius: 25.4 cm (10 in) Body Wood: Maple Neck Wood: Maple Fingerboard Wood: Rosewood Neck Binding: Yes Fret Marker Style: Triangle Tailpiece: RIC Bridge: RIC Neck Type: Through body No. of Pickups: 2 Type of Pickups: Single Coil Output Type: Mono and Stereo Machine Heads: Schaller Deluxe The neck is so smooth (and feels a tad narrower than my other 2010 4003 but it is not) and plays like polished glass. I LOVE IT. Not sure I will play it live, though. Taking her on stage in a club somewhere, the way I run around--just the thought of even one nick makes me shudder.
