MY ODYSSEY I was with Hercules at crown theater and later in my dreams ; My introduction into Greek stories happened due to the lazy librarian of st.Josephs boys high school . He would never let us enter the library, but gave whatever books was on his counter; He was also very irritated with me because I would turn up every day for borrowing and returning books; He even quizzed me to find if I really read the books; I don’t know why he never liked me, but to avoid seeing me he gave me a book which was about 400 plus pages; the book was about the Trojan war That is how my journey with the Greeks started ; The gods, the demigods, the kings and heroes ; I was fascinated with the names ; Achilles , Zeus, Aphrodite , Heracles, ; the cities :- Sparta, Athens, troy , Macedonia, Thrace :- the names were so beautiful ; the stories of hercules, perseus , poseidon , hades, athena ; the centaurs, the hydras and medusa From the Trojan wars, came to the stories of the Persian invasion and the resistance put up by the Spartans [ numerous movies on this :- last of the spartans, 300 ] ; Next was Alexander and his conquests; Through Alexander I met Darius [the emperor of persia] and came to know about the Persian empire; the lands of Persia, Assyria, Babylon; I was thrilled when I realised that Alexander was a contemporary of Chandra gupta maurya [ who I knew through amar chitra katha] ; Again names , ISKANDER[ the Persian name of Alexander] , seleucus nicator , megasthanes , indica ; After that came the Romans, :- through the movie Cleopatra ; Julius ceasar , mark antony , Cleopatra, octavian Caesar who defeated mark Anthony ; The journey through the roman empire stopped there and was resumed after almost 15 years when I was in Rwanda ; I chanced upon a book called “Claudius”; Claudius was the 3rd roman emperor after Augustus ; I met Octavian Caesar again , but now he was the emperor Augustus married to livia ; Then my search for roman history started ; I read about the roman emperors , Tiberius, Caligula, Nero and finally reached MARCUS AURELIUS in Ridley scot’s movie “gladiator” ; Towards the end of the roman empires journey :- the movie “kingdom of heaven” was released ; Thus the journey to Jerusalem began ; Balian of ibilin , the knights Templar , the crusaders, the fall of Jerusalem and that is where I saw for the first time [thru the movie] :- SALADIN [ or in Arabic Salahudeen], the sultan of Damascus and Egypt ; Thanks to the librarian of st.josephs, Ridley scott, CROWN THEATRE and now wikipedia :- my ODYSSEY continues ; Every day I discover new places, new heroes, and new stories;
