MY OPEN LETTER ABOUT THE NOPD SUPERINTENDENT: Editor: As a Black man and life long anti crime activist, its embarrassing watching the servile spectacle of New Orleans Police Superintendent Michael Harrison doing interviews and photo ops defending Mitch Landrieus indefensible, anti-police policies. It makes Harrison appear to be a puppet, a role his White predecessor, Ronal Serpas, wasnt required to perform. The current superintendent also isnt allowed to meet with independent Black safety rights and prevention advocates like Bro Al Mims, the Peace Keepers and others. I thought Lincoln freed the slaves a while ago, but clearly not in this case! Serpas also wasnt required to have an office next the mayors in City Hall. He presided over NOPD from police headquarters ,as it should be. Its also rumored hes secretly guiding Harrison too, with Landrieus consent. Lest we forget, he called Serpas a father figure, when he was initially made Acting Superintendent. It appears the act is still going on. I join other Black proponents of law and order- not so-called radicals by the way, in being disgusted by the blatantly racist way in which Harrison is being micro managed by this mayor. As a Southerner, this is absolutely the worst treatment Ive ever seen a Black professional publically endure. Why Superintendent Harrison is taking this disrespect boggles my mind. This isn t progress- its regress wdsu/nopd-superintendent-michael-harrison-sits-down-to-address-crime-mayors-office/30659212
