MY RANT: Dear Bahamians, we really need to wake up before its too - TopicsExpress

MY RANT: Dear Bahamians, we really need to wake up before its too late! Listening to the talk shows today and the amount of complaints people are making about this government and the state of affairs in this country, is truly disheartening. We as a people are too complacent and passive to the many critical issues that are going on. Day in and day out, so many of us gripe and complain, even make jokes and take everything so lightly, when truly, we are losing our country before our very eyes. We are being overtaken by foreigners, yet daily, we all sit on FB, await to see what the next critical issue is, then we complain, yet we dont take a stand against all the injustices that are happening to us and around us. This complacency is going to cause us as a people to lose this country of ours, the only one we have. As a caller to one of the talk shows today said, the foreigners are watching us and loving our complacency and passiveness! She said the Chinese knows that Bahamians are consumers, they know our strengths and weaknesses and they are using that to gain traction, ownership of businesses and properties here in our own country while the average Bahamian cant even own a decent piece of land here. She said the Chinese are saturating the Carmichael Road area with businesses, the Haitians are opening up beauty salons and stores and the Nigerians are owning all the car lots, yet a typical Bahamian is taken through the ropes and practically required to give an arm and a leg in order just to even attempt entrepreneurship or some betterment of life. Did you all know, that if at any time, the Bahamar group cannot maintain that property, by contract, the Chinese can then come in and take over that establishment and property? Also, did you all know that the Chinese are seeking to revitalize Bay Street? Bay Street! OUR main street! Would it be transformed to keep the old English charm and effect it has long been known to be or will it be transformed into China Town? My issue with this is, it seems as if there is a slow, yet aggressive takeover of this country and many of our people are not even realizing it. It is things like this that many will overlook and say so what! But it is that very attitude that will cause us the people to lose this country! I truly believe this country has been sold out (most likely by our very own), and Bahamians will soon be foreigners in their own land! Yet, Bahamians see this, sit around, and continue to dwell in mediocrity and complacency, when in a few short years, if not sooner, the very people of this country wont even have a say anymore, much less own anything of substantiality or worth. This country is not what it used to be and every day, it angers me to see how many Bahamians are taking these issues so lightly and refuse to stand together to demand accountablity on so many issues that need immediate attention and resolutions from our leaders such as immigration, fiscal reform, accountability and the FOIA. I am afraid that if we as a people dont wake up soon, in a few short years, the Bahamas that we once know will be gone, and by then it will be too late!
