MY RANT FOR THIS EVENING: I catch a lot of shit for not - TopicsExpress

MY RANT FOR THIS EVENING: I catch a lot of shit for not supporting my local/live music scene all the time. As a member of the local Atlanta music scene since elementary school (basically - long story), I feel like Ive earned the right to say this: ATLANTA SUCKS when it comes to live music. Back up...NOT the musicians. Im not talking about the musicians. Im talking about the CROWDS/FANS. Not all of you suck, but most do. Maybe you just expect too much when you plunk down that $10 cover charge or $150 for a national act ticket? It doesnt seem to matter here in good ole Georgia. You come out and barely make a noise/cheer/scream/yell or even participate in the LIVE show going on in front of your face! Too busy on your phone or checking to see how soon you should leave to beat traffic I suppose. What do you want, Atlanta? Because I tell you what the BANDS want...they want you to WANT to be there or at least ACT like you want to be there. So Atlanta - as I watch a show live going out to millions right now, that if shot in 100 other cities/towns, would have been OFF THE CHAIN - and is actually just kinda meh (from the crowd side - the band ROCKED LIKE HELL), I cant help but ask...do you even LIKE live music? Why did you even buy a ticket? I saw this band exactly one week ago in another southern city and the crowd KICKED ASS. Granted, it was a festival, but Ive been embarrassed at festivals here too. Ive been embarrassed at 100 capacity venues and at The Dome. What the hell gives? I guess I just grew up in a different Atlanta. I thought the music scene here was changing. It is...as far as insanely talented musicians/artists literally everywhere you turn. But are the people of Atlanta even looking? Are they even listening? I dont think so. End of rant.
