MY SAN PEDRO STORY (warning...long-ass post) August 2, 2009: I came to San Pedro with $200 in my pocket and a job offer to work for the biggest real estate developer in the country as a salesperson/marketing officer. I was determined to make it. At the time, this was the best paying job I had EVER had. Awesome salary, kickass equipment, constant commissions from land sales and amazing visionaries as my bosses/mentors. The people I worked for were so ahead of the game and so creative that I would have been a FOOL not to learn from them. I excelled in sales and really honed my skills as a salesperson/marketer by taking Tony Robbins courses and by reading Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. I used my new found sales talent to network and build up a client base for my graphic design/marketing business (later known as TG Marketing Solutions). So when my 2 year tenure with the developers ended, I had a choice to either wing it as an independent or go back home. I ended up with a full-time contract from the best real estate brokerage in all of Central America and the Caribbean so I decided to stay and see if i could amount to anything. I was determined and that paid off. On top of that awesome setup, I helped open and brand several establishments, many of which are very popular today. Among those was Señor Marlins Sports Bar, one of the islands nighttime hotspots. In the process of helping them get started, I also started my DJ career. They gave me the opportunity to basically practice on their equipment on Thursday Nights. To my surprise, I built up a following. It was amazing making huge crowds of people vibe to my juggling. I crafted and perfected MY STYLE of juggling and to this day, I have been ever grateful for Manuel D. DelValle JR and SR for giving me that opportunity. Last night while standing outside Marlins, Manny Sr came up to me and shared my sentiments. He said Dzl, you helped build this place. You will always be a part of the Marlins Family. It took me a minute to really wrap my mind around that. I was very humbled in that moment and I caught goosebumps. To see a huge crowd both on the beach and inside the bar really made me feel good. Additionally, it brought back memories of all the things I have done in San Pedro. TGiX at The X-Lounge, Friday Nights at Skybox Sports Lounge (respect Jay Jex). EasterBashs and Costa Mayas with Bum Squad DJz (Belize Chapter) at Luna Loca (thanks for trusting me Brandy DeAngelo), Holiday Hotels Halloween Bashes (thanks for having me Lisa McCorkle Guerrero and for all the referrals), my newfound niche as one of the top Special Events DJs in all of Belize. It all came back to me. I owe it ALL to my life-changing decision to move to San Pedro. I have met amazing people and formed lifelong bonds and friendships. I have had amazing experiences. I have learned valuable life lessons. I have fallen in and out of love and in again! I have grown by leaps and bounds as a person. I love this place sooo much. I have overcome so much adversity. I crawled thru a river of shit and came out clean on the other end (got that from The Shawshank Redemption). I SAY ALL THAT TO SAY THIS: All good things must come to an end and unfortunately, my time in San Pedro has come to an end after 5 years, 4 months and some days. Im going home to Belize City, both for professional and personal reasons. New exciting opportunities await me there, as does my 10 month old baby boy, Aiden, whose life I have been missing out on. Ill be back from time to time. Ill still come to rock parties and to provide marketing services, but Ill be based in the city. THANK YOU to everyone who has supported me in ANY WAY over the past 5 years and change. I even thank the people who said i wouldnt make it. That motivation fueled me like nothing you can imagine. I cant leave here without rocking SENOR MARLINS one last time tho, so I wanna ask everyone whod like to say goodbye or haul yu raas to me to link up next FRIDAY DECEMBER 12! Ill do a flyer once I have all the details together but I wanna have a good time one last night before I leave next Monday. Sorry if I sound corny or sappy but San Pedro has made me who I am and I will miss this place so bad. The natural beauty, the charming people. EVERYTHING. Its been a wild, fun ride SP, but I have to do what I have to do to make the future brighter for my family! Ill be back tho. I fully intend on retiring here. Until then..............................................PEACE!!!
