MY SUNDAY REFLECTION FROM JOHN 9:1-40 “That we may - TopicsExpress

MY SUNDAY REFLECTION FROM JOHN 9:1-40 “That we may see...” Reflecting on the gospel according to John 9:1-40, led me to think of a term that I recently encountered in religious literature –Religious Pathology. Though there are varied definitions about this, I am led to think of the importance to maintain balance between religiosity and spirituality. While the former may mean an organized system of belief consisting in tenets and various rules, the latter speaks more of a connection, a relationship with God. Both are important and none is exclusively sufficient. The Pharisees failed to see the will of God in all that Jesus did. They accused Christ of violating the Sabbath and they have ridiculed the testimony of the blind man that was cured. They have attributed the works of God to something that is not good. All for the reason that Christ’s actions did not fit in to the rules they have formulated. In real life situations this can happen to anyone of us. Sometimes we are fixated to our rules and we fail to recognize the will of God in the events of our lives. We tend to judge and condemn others if they fail to come up with our rules. But sometimes we fail to recognize that events do happen, even worse events happen, for a purpose – that the Mercy of God may be revealed. God does not rejoice in the condemnation of the sinner, but in the salvation of the sinner. Christ said that there is even rejoicing in heaven even for one soul that returns. May this Lenten season be an opportunity for all of us to see the things around us from the vantage point of Divine Mercy that we may become each other’s keeper and grow to discover more the Will of God. “Thy will be done and not our own will, as it is done in heaven so be it on earth.” Amen.
