MY THOUGHTS AT THIS TIME OF YEAR: Call me a scrooge, but about - TopicsExpress

MY THOUGHTS AT THIS TIME OF YEAR: Call me a scrooge, but about 3 decades ago, I gave up the christmas thing. Today we are already inundated with christmas music at shopping malls. We are flooded with nonstop commercials way before its even Thanksgiving day. We all have seen and some have mentioned the crass commercialism of what has come to pass. I noticed the loss of the spirit of gift giving being seen as I got so and so this gift at such a price, so I should get the same value of gift in return. To me, expecting something of equal value is the same exact thing as a business deal.....the WHAT DID YOU GET ME SYNDROME THING. Expections and pressures placed upon folks long diluted any spirit of true gift giving. For centuries until rather recently, oh about the last 120 years or so, the observance of a holiday was nothing more then a reason for folks to gather together for what was a feast...a banquet....a big dinner....usually each bringing something to share. That was it, with no huge pressures from society to go into huge debt in gift giving. As a Christian, there is no mention in scripture to celebrate a birthday of the Christ child. He most certainly wasnt born in December.....as scripture tells us He was born at about the time of passover. This occurs in the spring, April I do believe. Mary and Joseph were in Jerusalem under orders of the Roman governor to report for census taking. There was no room at the Inn as Jerusalem was crowded due to passover and the census taking.....so Jesus was born in a stable, a barn, what is called a manger. The pagen Romans, the majority of Rome, saw the growing number of Christians in the early 3rd century A.D. and in a politically correct move of the day, came up with a December 25th day, which was the birthday of the Roman sungod Sol....to appease this growing number of Christians so theyd have thier holiday too.....not feel so left out of the majority of Roman practices of observances. The practice of nailing wood onto cut trees came straight out of pagen practices in Babylon during the Jewish captivity in that city. This can be proven from the book of Jeremiah which details the captivity. The yule log burning is straight out of pagen scandinavian worship of norse gods of the days of the vikings......on and on..... I DO NOT BEGRUDGE AT ALL others doing this or that at this time of year. I believe in folks expressing themselves as they damn sure wish to....as long as they are not harming others in some fashion. My nation is a predominantly Christian nation and I will fight to the death to uphold Constitutional rights. Its just I too must live according to my own conscience, thus will pass on the christmas observances. I do enjoy the getting together of family and friends and the wanting good will, and yes if possible, expressions of love.
