MY TRIP TO ASSAM : I MET MY FB FRIEND DEBU DA( Devabrata Das) IN REAL LIFE.: I was fortunate enough to meet my fb friend debuda, an eminent writer from Assam at his esteemed residence in Guwahati. Me and my hubby reached his place at around 7 pm.As we entered the gates of his residence, the neatly arranged luscious garden immediately drew my senses. And then, there was Debuda in real life in front of me. As we exchanged pleasanteries and entered his drawing room I knew that somebody must be really taking care of every part of that rooms beauty. No sooner than that Nijara baideu ,the gracious better half entered the room I realised what care she would have been taking of her home.I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Nijarta Baideu, apart from doing her routine duties as the Principal of an education institution is also frequently out of station attending to Social Work. She treated us with the famous delicious Sandesh brought from Barpeta as also other home made snacks and payax(kheer) specially made for us. A humble Debuda, consequent to my insistence took us to his library, upstairs. He showed his childhood collections of James bond series very excitedly ! And wow ! the collection of books which he has was really breathtaking. And there amongst the various photos and innumerable awards stood out the BEST CRITIC AWARD which looked like a colourful feather in the cap.And what a privilege for me ... Debuda gifted me a signed copy of his 10 years literary column Hiyar Pokhilabur in his library. This was indeed a memorable moment for me! Thank you Debu da for the precious gift..While we talked, Debuda told us about his two daughters also. Both are talented and doing extremely well - elder daughter is settled in Boston,United States. ..Younger one is in Dubai. Best critic award winner and eminent writer Debu da (Devabrata das from Assam has been chosen for the prestigious Tagore Literature Award 2010.The writers foray into literature started in 1972, and he has so far authored six short story collections, three novels and several novellas.
