MY VIEW: While I agree that there ought to have been deep expressions of regrets, an apology of some sort, the President, if he decides to offer a stronger apology, must offer it as a PERSONAL mea culpa, a personal apology ON HIS OWN behalf and on behalf of his lieutenants; he must take FULL PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for bungling the solution to the Luneta hostage crisis. I repeat, he must do it as a PERSONAL APOLOGY and NOT ON BEHALF OF THE NATION! It will be difficult but I see no other way. Should the president offer a mea culpa or personal apology, he cannot do it on my behalf, not on behalf of my family, nor on behalf of the Filipino nation... BUT if for any reason he finally decides to offer an official, national apology, he should also turn around to apologise to the Filipino nation -- who themselves were shocked at the sheer incompetence, for embarrassing them before the world. Its a condition sine qua non! HK can go to hell if they expect an apology that would include me my family my friends my relatives and my fellowmen. We offer regrets, compassion, bereavement for the loss of lives cause by one insane man, a terrorist, but to offer a national and official apology on the excuse that it is a national act is to accept that we are a nation of terrorists. The conditions for offering any form of apology are clear... The condition is sine qua non!
