MYSORE PALACE ISSUE :- Soon after the Independence, all of the 575 Indian Princely States except Junagad, Hyderabad and Jammu and Kashmir signed the Instrument of Accession and merged in the Indian Union.As per all the Instruments of Accession, all palaces of the Rulers were treated as their Private Properties.Accordingly erstwhile Royal Families of Vadodara, Gwalior,Jaipur and all other Royal Families are in peaceful possession and enjoyment of their Palaces.The Mysore Royal Family in their recorded history of about 600 years have been consistently benevolent and exhibited utmost concern for the Welfare and Wellbeing of their subjects. There is not a single instance wherein the Mysore Royal Family has committed an atrocity,or looted their subjects.The contribution of the Royal Family of Mysore towards the uplift of the Dalits, development of the backward classes,educational and industrial development,provision of healthcare and Kannada literature and culture is unmatched by any one of the Rulers of the Indian States, and even any Country in the World.Facts being such,it is a matter of deep regret that the Government of Karnataka has passed (in 1998 )legislation to acquire the palaces of the Mysore Royal Family situated at Mysore and Bangalore.What the Government wants to do with these Palaces?Why the only the Palaces of only the Mysore Rulers have been singled out?The people of the Old Mysore State should for ever be grateful to the Royal Family of Mysore. It is high time to repeal the Acts proposing the Acquisition of the Palaces at Mysore and Bangalore, for whatever reasons they might have been passed,and return them to the erstwhile Royal Family forthwith,of course with the condition that they should be maintained as they are today and shall not be alienated except to the State Government.We should also remember that so many other Palaces were donated by the Mysore Royal Family for the development of the State ,even when The Rulers were absolute owners of those Palaces ( CFTRI etc..).It will certainly not behove the people of Karnataka and the Government ,particularly the people of the Old Mysore State to harass and cause agony to the Royal Family of Mysore , now headed by a widow of the Late Prince.Time to overcome petty likes and dislikes and express,GRATITUDE .
