MYTH: The land of Israel is really the land of the Palestinians. FACT: historians and the Bible agree that the term Palestine is derived from the old name Philistia or Philistines Aegean people who in the 12th Century BC settled along the flat shores of the Mediterranean Sea, what is now known as Israel and the Gaza Strip. In the 2nd century AD, after crushing the last Jewish revolt, the Romans began to call Judea, a region of Israel, with the name of Palestine (the portion south of what is now known as the West Bank) in an attempt to minimize Jewish identification with the land of Israel. The Arabic word Filastin is derived from this Latin name. It is interesting to highlight that there is no country called Palestine that there is no common culture called Palestine, and has NEVER been a country called Palestine ruled by the Palestinians. Palestinians are Arabs, indistinguishable from the inhabitants of Jordan (another recent invention), the Syrians, Lebanese or Iraqi, etc... MYTH: The Jews have no historical claim to Israel. FACT: ONLY Jews have lived in Israel continuously for the past 3.700 years. Where were the Palestinians during the time of Jesus? Israels Arabs came in 632 AD, following the Muslim invasion. MYTH: Israel has been an expansionist state since creation. FACT: Israels borders were determined by the United Nations when the Partition Plan was adopted in 1947 in a series of defensive wars, Israel captured additional territory... On numerous occasions, Israel has withdrawn from these areas. As part of an agreement in 1974, Israel returned in 1967 and 1973 occupied territories to Syria. Under the terms of the peace treaty Egyptian-Israeli, Israel withdrew its troops from the Sinai Peninsula (Remember all these territories belonged to the historical Israel of David and Solomon!) For the third time. It had already been removed from large areas occupied in the desert when the War of Independence. Israel returned the Sinai Peninsula to Egypt in 1957. In September 1983, Israel withdrew from large areas at the request of Lebanon, except for a narrow zone in the Awali River. In 1985 they withdrew from Lebanon. Israel returned most of the West Bank in 2000. Would you think Israel is an expansionist state? All these concessions Israel has made in exchange for peace from neighboring enemies. Have they obtained peace?
