On the season turnaround a desperate Flowerpot descended on Crompton Road for a do or die - tie against a Bruce ‘B’ team which is slowly and steadily gaining in confidence . With the sign of seven looming over the Pot and not a win since June it was Vital to take the spoils here . Kev Whitmore kicked off for the Pot facing the Bruce’s Dave Gibbs, Kev got the lads off to the best possible start with a 2 – 0 win for 1 – 0… Next son Andy made dad proud as he added to the Pots kitty with another 2 – 0 win. With the Terracotta’s flying Bruces Captain Derek Turner made an attempt to turn the tide. His opponent Geoff Wood enjoying a very green patch of form lately, continued winning ways despite dropping a leg….With the Pot at a tasty 3 – 0 up it was Captain Wayne Eadie facing the task of closing the match win out. Cliff Wilkinson still finding his feet for the Bruce has been throwing some increasingly consistent darts. At a leg piece it was Wayne who took the game and the Pot the match. At an impressive 4 – 0. Dan Whitmore found Trevor Goodey too hot to handle 2 – 0.Then another Bruce come-back-kid Eddie Bainbridge did a job on Tommy Crowley 2 – 0. It may have been too late for the complete comeback but every point counts and the Bruce made it respectable with a 2 – 0 win in the doubles for a 4 – 3 damage limitation job on the night. Sporting ‘B’ 2 V 5 Nags ‘A’…Scorecard photo supplied.. It resembled a tournament evening at the Sporting club with Marstons league team on the lower board and four mens 501 league teams on the upper floor. Too the right Sporting ‘B’ were entertaining the Nags ‘A’ .Too the left Sporting ‘A’ were playing the Queens ‘A’. At the holler of Game-On,Steve Holland stood up first too be counted for the Nags against Darren Pegg for Sporting. Steve breezed the game 2 – 0 to put the nose bags in the lead. Sporting struck back straight away as Dan Rimmer got the better of Roy Barber 2 – 1. 1 – 1 soon became 2 – 1 for Sporting as Lee McCabe made it a miserable night for Martin Perry with a 106 out shot putting the lid on it. With the game soon squared again, Lee Banks 2 – 0 win against Shaun Pegg leveling matters. Another Sean fell next to Andy Rathmill.Sean Maguire unable to contain the 2 – 0 dumping. Micky Plant closed the match out with a 2 – 0 win for 4 – 2 . The Nags then took the doubles 2 – 1 for 5 – 2 on the evening , which see’s further strengthening of their league position. Sporting ‘A’ 2 V 5 Queens ‘A’… Scorecard photo supplied … At the Sporting Club On the far board in the corner next to the wall.Sporting ‘A’ were getting together with the Queens ‘A’. With the Queens only sporting five players they were already a game down when they arrived. Mark Turner threw first on the oche and was stunned to see a fast starting Ade Dickenson firing in some big scores. Ade could not buy a double in the first leg which Mark took. The second leg was typical Turner with an 103 out shot 18 dart leg. At 1 – 0 Gordon Shaw and Neil Podmore went head to head in a three leg thriller. Gordon with 2 x 140s took the impressive first leg despite three consecutive tons by his opponent, only to be denied by the ever battling Neil 2 –1. At 2 – 0 flying Andy Jackson soared past Rob Clayton with a superb 2 – 0 win. With the Queens 3 – 0 up Jack Mitchell faced Glen Valentine in the game of the night.Jack scoring consistently in the first leg but Glen taking it in 17 against the darts. With the throttle wide open the 14 dart redline appeared and with a 76 out shot and no hope for Jack,Glen made it 4 – 0 . Mark Billing then made it 5 – 0 with a 2 – 0 win over the ever improving James Bickerton. Dan Burgess claimed his game with the Queens a man down .Then Dan and James took the doubles for a little pride and a big point 2 – 0 for 5 – 2 on the night. Britsh Flag 4 V 3 Railway View…Report Texted.. After a close match last week against the Spinners and just coming out on the wrong end of that result , the Flag must be beginning to believe. The Railway now on a uneaten run of four made this a tough one to call… Up for it on the night for the Flag were winners Mark Whitehurst,Mick Newton and Captain Nigel Steele. Finding that winning touch for the Choo Choo’s were Paul Barnett,Ian Armitt and Wez Emmery. At 3 – 3 and poised to go either way it was the Flag that earned the right to call themselves winners as Nigel Steele and Mark Barber clamed the doubles and the match from Paul Barnett and Ian Armitt… Broken X 5 V 2 Spinners… Scorecard photo supplied... A Clash of the titans as third and fourth came together in a home fixture for the Broken X.Neither of these teams are used to losing matches so one of them was going to have to go through the pain barrier later on this evening. . Spinners Terry Hunter was called first to take on Jim Turner of the Cross.First Blood went to the Cross with Jim taking his game 2 – 0. At 1 – 0 Mick Smith faced Roy Ainsworth and kept the Club on track with yet another 2 – 0 victory. Mick Hatton had the darts advantage but couldn’t make the most of it as Mark Cairney took the game 2 – 1 with an 18 dart leg thrown into the mix. At 3 – 0 to the Cross in form Steve Sellars stepped up to be counted for the out-of-towners.His opponent Dave Nelson couldn’t scratch a leg as Steve brought the game back too life at 3 – 1. However the ‘Bear’ Neil Ridgeway put paid to a Spinners comeback with a 2 – 1 win over Rob Smith. Bob Wilkins took on the might of Ian Wadsworth and came off worse in the 2 – 1 tussle 4 – 2 . Mark Cairney and Bob Wilkins turned the tide yet again in their favour as the Cross took the doubles 2 – 0 and closed the gap to the Spinners to just two points. Queens ‘B’ 6 V 1 Bruce ‘A’…..Scorecard photo supplied.. With the Queens ‘B’ coming off a Byron battering the previous week , would confidence be low and heads down as the Bruce ‘A’ came to call. If they were , they weren’t for long with a great get-away by Andy McKeith for the Queens with a 2 – 0 win over Steve Corke. When Dave Higginbotham blew Rick Corke’s chances out without a leg dropped the Queens found themselves 2 – 0 up. The Bruces Captain Paul Clarke had delayed his holiday to play this evening and some say He may as well have gone early as he lost to Savvi Tomczak yet again 2 – 0.Surely Rob Daniels could stop the rot at 3 – 0 but He simply couldn’t. Mike Hunter slugging him with yet another 2 – 0 . At 4 – 0 if anyone was going to do it for the Bruce,it had to be form boy Mick Graves .The Queens captain Ashley Jones suffering double trouble allowed Mick to pick him off 2 – 1. At 4 – 1 up Rob Lockett entered the fray for the Queens and swept Chris Graves aside.. The Queens made sure of a big result as they cleaned up in the doubles for 6 – 1 on the night… Nags ‘B’ 0 V 7 Lord Byron.. Scorecard photo supplied.. No one could blame the Nags for going lame en masse on Monday night. After all the only way is up now for a Nags B team entrenched at the bottom of the league. Steve Clarke was first on the oche against the up and coming Kieran Nelson. On this occasion He was soon heading in the wrong direction as Steve took the opener 2 – 0. Next Tec Leach wouldn’t let go of Andy Bowman as Tec took the game for 2 – 0 up. Next Adam Forrest couldn’t see the wood for the trees against the might of Darren Jackson.Darren keeping the symmetry going with another 2 – 0. At 3 – 0 Shaun Fisher then found Steve Kimpton a bit of a catch gone wrong…You guessed it ! 2 – 0..At 4 – 0 Scott Newton showed further disrespectful behavior to Captain Marcus Dennerly 2 - 0.Five soon became six as Matt McAllister paid the ferryman to take Allen Leigh away in 17 darts. Six nil became Seven in the doubles as the Byron won that again 2 – 0. . No legs conceded on the night in a 7 – 0 thrashing of the Nags serves notice of intention as the Byron return to the top by one….. Until Next Week…..
