Machete-wielding thugs attack elderly couple in their home An elderly couple were attacked in their own home by machete-wielding thugs. The 70-year-old man and his 69-year-old wife were watching TV in the front room at their home in Chadderton when someone rang their doorbell shortly before 6.30pm. As the man answered the door of the property on Birch Avenue, he was repeatedly punched in the face as he grappled with two men who forced their way in. He suffered injuries to his face and shoulder during the attack. His wife ran to his aid. However the offenders were brandishing a machete and demanded to know if they had a safe as they went upstairs. One of the men then threatened to attack the couple with the weapon. The woman ran from the house and screamed for help, which caused both offenders to flee empty-handed. The first offender was black, about 6ft 2in tall, well-built and in his mid-20s. He had distinctive eyebrows and a large nose. He was wearing a dark grey woollen hat with a black scarf around his face. His accomplice was also black, about 5ft 8in tall, of a slim build and in his mid-20s.
