Mad Mental Muzic 2 offered the perfect opportunity to compile a selection of bands who hold a strong bound musically together. Unifying under a new-metal ethos; bands such as Milk, Neshiima & Monkey Puzzle help to cement the building blocks to a possible movement, a scene that can only be sustained by your unrelenting support. With each gig there has been a heart warming amount of support with a strong hold of people who attend & represent the undeniable atmosphere which is created between these talented musicians. I feel in many ways my faith has been restored when I experienced the enthusiasm and passion of these bands; supporting each other to the hilt, along with a whole crowd embracing consistently the night & what it has to offer. I feel in Glasgow; especially due to the over saturation of music in the city audiences are divided; only coming out to view the band they support & then leaving to go to another venue. The same can be said for some bands; a band can play their set and then disappear for the rest of the evening, not taking the time to support the other bands they are on the bill with. This I find disheartening as it is a condition of too much musical choice & a lack of awareness of how to respect & appreciate other musicians creativity. To create a solid scene we have to stick together, unify under a mutual respect and most of all LIVE IT. I find the bands who participated in Mad Mental Muzic most certainly demonstrate that a scene can rise. A band who I spoke about always in good kudos is Milk, they are under the wing of NHC music, and are consistently a pleasure to embrace live. On this occasion their energy was as infectious as ever, as they felt 100% comfortable, being surrounded by such a vibrant collective of people who resonate on the same level. Lead vocalist Peter Fleming was as driven as ever, with an explosion of infectious energy that never fails to captivate. Milk are one of those bands who play with conviction, whether it be to 10 people or 100; their input levels never diminish, I find so much respect for their dedication. As I ducked and dived stage side, I homed in on drummer Ross McCann, noticing how his beats has strong trip-hop influences incorporated into his drumming style, he plays with such skill, in such an inspiring way. I have been listening attentively to the the evolution of Milk; these days their sound is solid, skilful and has a raw emotion that drives it to the core. Their ability to translate their energy from live performances into their recordings is exceptional. I feel the truth and undeniable sentiment that is injected into milks musical creativeness will take them to dizzy new heights. Please make sure to check out their Ep Core milktheband.bandcamp/album/core available to purchase on bandcamp, also you can get your mits on a physical copy in our NHC Record shop, in Glasgows Hidden lane.
