Maddoxs Safe Driving Tip #47: The Turn Lane Say you are westbound on albert pike and you are going to turn left onto thornton ferry to take your ex-wife some of her clothes she left behind. You do NOT get in the turn lane at CAJUN boilers. You do not even get in the turn lane at chicken express. No. Because the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department has all of this spelled out for you in front of the Road Runner gas station AT the intersection of albert pike/thornton ferry. At the end of the turn lane, the left turn lane begins. It is marked with solid white lines and a white arrow. There is a gap between the yellow and white lines. THAT GAP is where you get in the LEFT TURN LANE to go down thornton ferry. There is WAY too much traffic at this intersection now for that, but thats how you do it. If traffic is backed up IN THE TURN LANE to chicken express or CAJUN BOILERS, then you just gotta get in the turn lane and ease up to the light that way as traffic in the turn lane allows. But NEVER travel 50mph in a turn lane. It is NOT A travel lane. That is all. Happy Motoring
