Made it to Aotea/ Great Barrier Island on the poor little plane. I thought it struggled a bit on take-off, and wondered if it was a good idea to have a mincencheese pie so soon before boarding. Got to the powhiri ok. A big crowd there. Will be a bigger one tomorrow. A 3.15am wake-up to get to the 5 am karakia/ blessing on time. I thought the Waikare Gorge was narrow and winding but these roads make that one seem like the Northern Motorway in comparison. Got some photos of the various islands and coastal areas south of Whangarei on the way over. A lovely day for flying.
