Made it to Matehuala. Took 3.5hrs longer than it should have, but mostly because of delays at the border on the Mexican side. Decided to get a cheap room for the night since I didnt sleep much & wanted a shower. Also need a few supplies that are cheaper here than the desert, like coffee. Might get some chia seeds in the market & at least try to be healthy (between chorizo sammiches that is) ;) Heading to desert in the morning. Everything is calm all the way! No military. No signs of violence at all. Just regular police, and they dont even have body armor. So far, reminds me of the old Mexico before the cartels. Economy seems to be thriving & all the vegetation is about 5 times more lush than Ive ever seen it! It seems, so far, the horrible dangers have been greatly exaggerated.
