Madhukobi remembered in Jessore → Zahid Hossain Biplob . A commemorative programme to mark the 140th death anniversary of poet Michael Madhusudan Dutt was held at the Madhu Mancha of Sagardari under Keshabpur Upazila of Jessore on Saturday. With the theme ‘Satat Hey Nod, Poro Mor Mone’, Madhukobi Academy, in association with the local administration, organised the event. Deputy Commissioner of the district Md Mostafizur Rahman addressed the event as chief guest while poet Dukhu Bangal spoke on the occasion as chief discussant. With UNO of Keshabpur Abu Sayed Mohammed Manjur Alam in the chair, Prof Dr Kanai Sen of Rabindra Bharati University of India, Prof Dr Amitava Chakraborty of Motijheel University of Kolkata, Poet Sadhan Kumar Ghosh and President of Michael Madhusudan Institute Dr Amanat Ali spoke at the event as special guests. Talking to Daily Sun, Prof Dr Kanai Sen said, “Michael Madhusudan Dutt is one of the greatest poets in Bengali literature and pioneer of the Bengali sonnet, Amitrakshar Chhanda and drama.” Prof Dr Amitav Charabarty said, “Michael was a generous in friendship, romantic and passionate by temperament and fond of good life.” Director of Madhu Academy Poet Khasru Parvez said, “Madhusudan removed the stagnation in Bengali literature both in style and content by dint of his versatile talent.” Michael Madhusudan Dutt was born at Sagardari, on the bank of river Kabodak, under Keshabpur Upazila of the Jessore in 1824. His father Rajnarayan Dutt was an eminent lawyer and his mother was Jahnabi Devi. Dutt breathed his last in Kolkata on 29 June 1873. The programme featured discussion, recitation, stage-play, musical soiree and dance.
