Madhya Pradesh High Court: Deciding the PIL relating to payment of charges of electricity consumed in the Bar Association Rooms or Rooms provided by the Court to the members of the Bar Association by the State Government, the Court held that it is necessary to provide better facilities to the advocates as they are officers of Court and an efficient and intelligent bar is necessary for administration of justice. Taking into account the fact that the Supreme Court is proving better amenities including electricity charges to the members of the it’s Bar Association who are considered to be better off than the members of the High Court Bar Association or District Court Bar Association or Tahsil Court Bar Association when it comes to earnings, the Court directed the State Government to bear the electricity expenses of all the District Courts within the jurisdiction of Gwalior Bench and also the Bar rooms of the Gwalior bench of the M.P. High Court. However, the Court left the Air Conditioning charges out-of-doors and limited the electricity expenses only to the expenses of fans, tube-lights, bulbs and coolers. No time limit had been fixed by the Court for carrying out the directions. [Vinod Kumar Bhardwaj v State of M.P., WP No. 5007 of 2012, decided on January 24, 2013]
