Madhya Pradesh will become the first state to use silo bags for storing wheat. With this the state, which now stands second in wheat procurement after Punjab, will also be able to find partial solution of shortage of gunny bags. Madhya Pradesh registers 13% agriculture growth for 2012-13. The state has outsmarted Haryana and now stands third after Punjab and Uttar Pradesh in per hectare yield. As a pilot project, silo bags have been used in two districts of the state – Raisen and Vidisha. It may be mentioned that silo bags are mostly used in South America. Each silo bag has the capacity of storing 2000 quintal. This year, silo bags will be used to store about 50 thousand metric tonnes of wheat on experimental basis. Silo bags have several specialities. Wheat can be stored in them without gunny bags. The wheat stored in silo bags remains safe for one year. Besides, rodents also cannot cause damage to it. No permanent construction is required for placing silo bags. They are also useful due to low labour cost. As far as price of silo bags is concerned, their rent will be paid as per rates fixed for traditional godowns by the Union government. Agreement has been reached over use of silo bags as per the rates for hiring godowns for wheat procurement. The State government considered use of silo bags as a pilot project in two districts in view of bumper wheat production and unexpected delay in the supply of gunny bags to the state. --------------------------------------------------- centralchronicle/madhya-pradesh-to-become-first-to-use-silo-bags.html --------------------------------------------------- centralchronicle/chouhan-takes-stock-of-silo-bag-and-storage-of-wheat-at-babai.html --------------------------------------------------- business-standard/article/economy-policy/madhya-pradesh-registers-13-agriculture-growth-for-2012-13-113062300654_1.html
