Madi does not care as he just likes to pen I was in a class of preTESL students. It was their mock exam for Language Development. I distributed the question papers. They did what they are supposed to do. Answering of course! Me being me, I brought in my 1999 buy keyboard and played some instrumentals. I can assume what you are thinking at the moment. Me being a bit out-of-mind. What has the keyboard got to do with exam? Okay! Relax people. Let me explain. Soft music helps to soothe the mind when it is working and I was experiencing with an approach called Suggestopedia. The main reason is to bring down the affective filter of anybody who is trying his/her best to meet the right answer. If they were lucky and blessed they reached the end of the road. If not, at its worst, they left the class as nothing on the question paper makes sense. So, the hypothesis is music encourages the brain to function at its peak. But make sure you are not listening to AC/DC or KORN etc. No correlation happens to students because of certain reasons. The heaviest is delaying studies until the last minute. And the brain has problem to store as it is receiving overloads. I understand this as I myself experienced the phenomenon many times. I term it as Serve you right, Mr/Miss Student. Dont brag that you have never experienced it. Its part and parcel of growing up as a student. So, just admit and try our best to prepare early and through stages. We are out of our mind if we try to compute a semester of studies in just 3 nights. Back to the real issue. Sorry, I get carried away when I pen. Losing my focus as Im also listening to my own songs. Not promoting, only telling you guys I am a songwriter cum TESL instructor cum facebook reflective writer cum preacher cum whatever that a multi-tasker often does. And the photo above is ME, hopefully at my best. The real issue is one of the questions of Language Development. These students are the cream of our education system. They scored in their SPM. The As ranging from 7 to 11. And I never got As for my SPM which was so long time ago. Dont try to assume my age as Im forever young-at-heart. They are of mixed ethnic groups. I really love teaching TESL group as I myself have the opportunity to learn from them. My class is a good melting-pot where people of nearly all races study together. Hey buddies! The teacher also learns from the students. Sometimes they see a content differently from me. Sometimes it hits me hard as I fail to see their view as a view of an 18-year-old. Sometimes I readjust my view to keep abreast with their kind of immature views. Hey! What do you expect? They are 18. So my discussion limit is just 18 unless they make it 15 years advanced. It is about a comprehension text of an old lady who sells vegetables. She is good with people. She provides them with her nice helping hands. Most of her wages she spends on charity. An organization awards her for her work. It seems that even though she gets an amount of a day work much much lesser than any of us, she still spends and most of her wage goes to people lesser to her. She says she only needs what is for her to use everyday. The organization calls her and she gets the award. After that she told the organizer that she needs to go home as there are people there who are waiting for her assistance. She didnt want to upset them. They wanted vegetables. Along with the vegetables they also need her kindness. Wonder when was the last time I did charity. My Allah help us to benefit others. Allah knows best.
