Madison Madison came to us the first of June this year. She was 5 - TopicsExpress

Madison Madison came to us the first of June this year. She was 5 years old, weighed 3 pounds, had a mouth full of rotted teeth, was absolutely petrified, and had never been out of a cage. She obviously had never been touched except by the back of the neck and she is still very sensitive in that area even after 6 months of gentle touch every day. It took nearly 3 months before she stopped running from us and now crouches down and lets us pick her up. We had a huge break through at 2 o’clock in the morning a couple of weeks ago. She had somehow gotten out of her bed at the foot of our bed and landed on the floor. I felt this tiny scratching at the side of the bed and it was her asking to be picked up. She ran under the bed but I gave her a few minutes and she came out and let me put her back to bed. My heart nearly burst with joy. So many people take such simple acts for granted and it is such a huge thing for those of us who have experienced these survivors. I comb and brush her every day just so she will feel a gentle touch and she tolerates it and we are hoping over the next year she will learn to trust. It just takes time, love and patience. She knows when it’s time to eat and becomes very vocal but even that took several months. There is hope for all of them. The first picture is her intake picture, the second is today. What a difference 6 months will make.
