Madrid come home with two defeats and a draw, a poor haul, but there’s no need to worry more than necessary. Madrid were missing a lot of players, due to the World Cup. Their rivals had fewer absences. No, the team that played in the US wasn’t Madrid, though they tried to make out like they were. It was Bale and not much more. The players from the World Cup weren’t in form, Illarra hasn’t taken off and Isco playing as a number 9 due to the circumstances doesn’t appear to be plausible. The conclusions from the tournament are as follows: that this season, Bale, free of the restraining factors of last year (late arrival, niggles) is going to be incredible, and that going about with only one centre-forward is dangerous, because if he’s missing there’s no one to put the ball in the back of the net. Madrid have scored very few in this tournament, both playing well (the other games) and playing badly (yesterday). And Casillas. I’ve left it to last. He’s not right, he’s like a bull fighter who’s lost his art. For all three Manchester United goals there was the feeling he could and should have done more.
