Maersk, the major shareholder in the Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT), is asking the Egyptian government to fulfill its prior commitment to finance and execute any required deepening of the path leading from the northern main entrance of the Suez Canal to the terminal. The company, which has been operating in Egypt for the last 10 years, says the improvements to infrastructure are necessary to maximise utilisation of the terminal’s current capacity, and also to expand its capacity to receive larger container ships.
