Maestr@s! Join us for a workshop for educators Thursday, February 6, 3:00pm - 5:00pm We will learn about Pura Belprés life and work, and about the Pura Belpré award. A discussion on the current trends in bilingual literacy and how to further our implementation in school programming will be lead by bookstore staff and Marilisa Jimenez-Garcia, Ph.D., Research Associate, Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College. Pura Belpré award winning books will be available. Educators with a valid school ID will receive 20% off all book purchases. Register by emailing: schools.lacasaazul@gmail This week at La Casa Azul Bookstore - Celebrate the life and legacy of Pura Belpré. Belpré became the first Puerto Rican to be hired by the New York Public Library (NYPL). Belprés name lives on in the fields of Latino and American librarianship and Latino and childrens literature as a source of inspiration. The Belpré Medal is presented to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth.
