Maestro Ilaiyaraaja, the Godfather of Indian music and also one of India’s finest and notable composers of all time, will be coming to the Merdeka Stadium, Kuala Lumpur on 28th December 2013. The 4 hour long year end mega concert, jointly organized by MyEvents International and MOJO Resources, and supported by Universal Music Malaysia, promises to entertain fans with non-stop music performances, dance and comedy sketches by over 90 artists & performers from India. The concert said to be the biggest Indian concert in Asia, is expected to draw a crowd of 25,000 people. Lined up are top hit legends such as S.P.Balasubrahmanyam, Hariharan, Mano, Chitra, Bhavadarini, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Geeta Madhuri, all singing their best hits, compossed by the maestro. Ilayaraja is also an instrumentalist, conductor, and a songwriter. To date, he has composed over 4,500 songs and provided film scores for more than 950 Indian films in various languages in a career spanning more than 30 years, particularly being acclaimed for his background scoring for Indian films. His songs and background score played a very crucial role in the success of many films. He remains one of the most popular composers ever in the South Indian film industry, and also in the list of world`s top selling music artists. He was conferred the title Isaignani (English: Maestro) in 1988. He also received the State Government Awards from the governments of Kerala (1995), Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh (The Lata Mangeshkar Award) (1998) for excellence in music. He was awarded honorary doctorates by Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu, India (Degree of Doctor of Letter (Honoris causa) in March 994, the World University Round Table, Arizona, U.S.A. (Cultural Doctorate in Philosophy of Music) in April 1994, and Madurai Kamaraj University, Tamil Nadu (Degree of Doctor of Letters) in 1996. He received an Award of Appreciation from the Foundation and Federation of Tamil Sangams of North America in 1994. Ilaiyaraaja has been a prominent composer of film music in South Indian cinema since the late 1970s. His works are mainly in Tamil and Telugu. A gold medalist in classical guitar from Trinity College of Music, London, in 1993 he became the first Asian to compose a full symphony performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London’s Walthamstow Town Hall.
