Mag ingat po tyo sa mga manloloko... Investment scam Upwarm Limited Co. operating via Facebook dupes victims of about P100M July 31, 2014 9:03pm A scam operating via popular social networking site Facebook has duped over 100 people of more than P100 million by promising huge returns in their investments in just a couple of months, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said. Ang pangako, each P1,499 (investment) kikita ng P6,000 within one month, tapos ang pay out daw every two weeks,” said NBI Anti-Fraud Division agent Normando Anire in an interview aired on GMA News “24 Oras” Thursday. Anire identified the company behind the scam as Upwarm Limited Co. headed by a certain Rodolfo Miranda Jr. Based on its Facebook page, Upwarm is a local “network marketing” company selling various merchandise such as soap, food supplements and perfume. The company said its main office is located at Caluza Bldg. on M.H. Del Pilar St., Sto. Cristo, Tarlac City, with branches at Regalia Bldg. on P. Tuazon St. in Cubao, Quezon City; Manuel L. Quezon St. in Bagumbayan, Taguig; and in Baguio City. Anire said the NBI has found out that Upwarm was not registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). He said the modus operandi of Upwarm was to send group messages to random Facebook users and place advertisements on the popular social networking site. “Kumakalat yan sa mga group messages sa Facebook, siguro may ilan munang mga pinakita na kumita nang malaki,” he said. “Unlimited, kahit ilang slots pwede mong bilhin sa kanila... yun ang ginawa kaya biglang lumaki yung operations nila.” Victims Anire said that just like other pyramiding scams, victims of Upwarm received interest of their investments at first to encourage them to invest more. Eric Carreon, one of those victimized by Upwarm, concurred with Anire. “Nag-start ako mag-invest ng P9,200 tapos tumubo siya, naging P18,000. Nakuha ko yung P18,000 so, syempre na-enganyo ako, dinagdagan ko,” Carreon said. He said about P200,000 worth of investment was taken away from him by Upwarm. Businessman “George,” meanwhile, said he was encouraged to invest P2 million to Upwarm because of the high interest rates that the company promised on its Facebook page. “Parang nasilaw ako dun sa kitaan na pinangangako dun sa website, na within a couple of months lang almost double your money na,” George said. He said that because of the huge amount of investment he had placed on the company, Upwarm president Miranda personally met with him and assured him that he will receive the interest after two months. But when the date when he was supposed to received the interest came, Miranda allegedly told him he cannot receive the money as of the moment. “Nung tinawagan ko si Rodolfo Miranda, ang sabi niya sa kin wala daw muna ako makukuha at codes na lang daw. Thats the time na nagtaka na ako,” George said, adding that he immediately reported the incident to the NBI. Anire said they have already filed syndicated estafa case against Miranda and four other officials of Upwarm before the Department of Justice. Anire, however, warned that the company is still operating under a different name and website. GMA News went to the main office of Upwarm in Tarlac City but it was closed. However, in an off-cam interview, Miranda said he is ready to face the case against him.
