Magic Lantern - Part 1 Browsing about the web, I ran into a new advertisement for Canon Australia and it featured a small clip from this stunning short video. This is so beautiful and looks like it was filmed using some top Hollywood equipment but its just the Canon 5D III with a few nice lenses. The key thing here is that it uses the wonderful Magic Lantern software that runs on the camera to produce breathtaking HD footage in RAW format. This is an astounding breakthrough by the Magic Lantern developers to be able to unlock the secrets of the Canon camera. Of course the director of this film needs full credit for the styling and execution since without his/her talent this breakthrough is just some nice technology. Although this new video capability has been around for over 9 months now, its been fairly recent that film directors are producing such amazing works of art that are not just test clips. For those who have followed me from the start will know that Im a BIG fan of Magic Lantern and have used it from the first day I got my 60D 2 years ago. Last week I installed it on my 5D and it makes such a difference to my workflow that my jaw just dropped ! Ill be putting together a brief report in the coming weeks.
